In times of digital transformation, financial uncertainty, and increasingly scarce building land resources, clients, planners, and construction companies face the growing challenge of staying innovative. The construction industry is already far behind other technology sectors and is often perceived as conservative and slow to adapt.
A central issue that is becoming increasingly significant is damage in the construction sector. Construction defects and structural damages not only cause substantial financial losses but also pose serious safety risks for buildings and their users. Common causes include faulty planning, poor execution, substandard materials, and insufficient quality control. Additionally, increasing time and cost pressures, a lack of qualified professionals, and insufficient digitalization contribute to the failure to detect or prevent construction defects in time.
Given the increasing number of damages in the construction industry, the importance of expert reports and assessments is growing significantly. Civil engineers are more in demand than ever when it comes to analyzing construction defects, identifying the causes of damage, and developing solutions. Their expertise is essential for presenting technical matters in a comprehensible way – both for clients and for courts and insurance companies. Expert reports and assessments are used in various areas:
The primary task of all stakeholders in the construction industry is to combine the right software tools with the necessary expertise to successfully complete a safe, economical, and, above all, defect-free construction project. Preventive quality assurance measures must take center stage. Modern technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital construction site monitoring systems, and predictive maintenance strategies can help detect and prevent construction defects at an early stage.
Additionally, aspects such as transparency, honesty, and good collaboration must be brought back into focus. Open communication, independent expert reports, and consistent quality control are essential to minimizing construction defects and ensuring sustainable building quality.

Member of the Expert Chamber at Swiss Engineering STV UTS ATS
Swiss Engineering STV is a Swiss professional association. It was founded on December 10, 1905, by graduates of the then "Technika" Burgdorf, Winterthur, and Biel, and today, with 13,000 members, it is the largest professional association of certified engineers and architects in Switzerland.
Since October 2022
SIA: Individual Member
The Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA) is the leading professional association for qualified professionals in the fields of engineering, architecture, technology, and the environment. With over sixteen thousand members, the association forms a competent, interdisciplinary network with the central aim of designing a sustainable living environment, all in the spirit of high building culture.
Since April 2007
Volunteer Work: Student Exchange
The association was founded in 1971 by former student exchange participants. The members remain connected to the association beyond their time in Australia or New Zealand. Through their volunteer work, they contribute to the life of the association and thus jointly shape the sustainable continuation of the student exchange with Australia and New Zealand.
